Deck restoration work in progress in Chapel Hill

Deck restoration in Chapel Hill with old stain and sealer that had to be removed so the wood could be cleaned and prepared for new stain. We used a brush and a little sodium hydroxide—not bleach—in a pump sprayer while wearing the proper safety gear. Next, using our rinse nozzles with very low pressure, we rinsed away the old grime with our pressure washer. In some places, we had to repeat the process to make sure all of it was removed. We did not want to use high pressure on the wood because it does more harm than good to the fibers.

Afterward, we used a wood toner and brightener to bring back the wood's natural color and proper pH. We used oxalic acid and another pump sprayer for this process. This deck is now ready for new stain and sealer. The cleaning took 4.5 hours to complete. We charged $750 and were blessed with a nice tip!
